Many myths about both good fats and bad continue to circulate, even among the most health-conscious of us. Let’s take a moment to set the record straight about a number of common
Omega-3 myths and get the Omega-3 facts.

Myth: Omega-3 can be produced naturally in the body.

Fact: While Omega-3s are vital to maintaining good health, these fatty acids cannot be naturally produced by the body itself.  To get enough, you need to eat foods that have the right amount of Omega-3s, or enrich your diet with an Omega-3 fatty acid supplement.
Myth: Fatty acids cause weight gain.
Fact: All fats are fats – some are “bad” (saturated and trans fats), some are “better” (Omega-3s). Regardless of the source, if you eat more calories than you need, you will gain weight. Some foods containing Omega-3 fatty acids – like oils and nuts – can be high in calories. So you should eat them in moderation, and watch your total daily calorie intake.
Myth: The best way to get the right Omega-3 is to eat fatty fish.
Fact: It is true that eating fish can help you get long-chain Omega-3s into your diet. But what if you are concerned about fish populations or possible toxins? Or if you are a vegetarian? Or just don’t like fish? The American Heart Association recommends two servings of fatty fish per week, which is roughly equal to 500 mg of EPA and DHA per day. The first vegetarian supplement ingredient of its kind, New Harvest™ offers 600 mg of EPA per 1200 mg softgel.
Myth: Omega-3 supplements contain dangerous toxins.
Fact: While there have been concerns raised in recent years about toxins like lead, mercury, or PCBs in fish, if you choose a vegetarian source like New Harvest™ for your Omega-3 supplement, you need not worry about these contaminants. New Harvest™ contains NO mercury, lead, or PCBs and NO cholesterol. NO kidding.
Myth: Only Omega-3 supplements made from fish oil support heart health.
Fact: Concentrated fish oil supplements are one way to support heart health, but they are not the only way. New Harvest™ offers a completely fish-free source of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), which is one of the long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids recommended by the American Heart Association to promote heart health.
Myth: Flaxseed oil is the only vegetarian Omega-3 option.
Fact: New Harvest™ is not only vegetarian, but also may actually be a better Omega-3 option than flaxseed. Why?  New Harvest™ is a direct source of the long-chain Omega-3, EPA, which is associated with heart health.  Flaxseed only contains the short-chain Omega-3, ALA, which is not known to directly support heart health and converts to EPA inefficiently in the body, at a rate of about 5%.
